The Yamada couple (husband Jiro and wife Keiko) move into a cheap company housing complex for single employees, recommended by Jiro's boss at his new job. Soon after the move, Jiro advances smoothly through the ranks. Keiko does her best to help her husband so that she doesn't get in the way of his advancement. The bosses are concerned about the couple. However, Keiko soon learns the truth about the housing complex.
