Mirai lives her days bravely while worrying about her husband who has gone off to the battlefield. Her father-in-law, who lives with her, pressures her into a physical relationship, and before long, satisfying his sexual needs has become a daily routine, but she endures and suppresses her feelings until her husband returns. After the war ends, all that is returned home is some of her husband's remains. Ignoring Mirai's grief, her father-in-law tells his colleagues from the battlefield who delivered them to her, "We have no heir. Please give Mirai your seed."
