Since losing her husband, Arika has been living alone with her son Yugo. Working hard on her own, she has helped her son grow up healthy and become a student with the potential to enter a top university. From now on, her hard work will pay off, and once her son enters the workforce, a happy life will be waiting for him...or so they thought. In the summer before Yugo's graduation next year, the Tadas meet with Oshima, his homeroom teacher, for a career consultation. After a promising three-way meeting, Arika is left alone in the classroom and told that there is a problem with Yugo's further education.
