Since losing her husband, Reiko, a mother, has been living alone with her son Makoto. Working hard on her own, her son has grown up healthy and become a student with the potential to enter a top university. From now on, her hard work will pay off, and once her son enters the workforce, a happy life will be waiting for him...or so they thought. In the summer before Makoto's graduation next year, the Seo's mother and son meet with Oshima, their homeroom teacher, for a career consultation. After a promising three-way meeting, Reiko is left alone in the classroom and told that there is a problem with Yugo's further education.
